Tooth Extraction and Oral Surgery

When a tooth needs to come out
Dentists always try to save a tooth first. Sometimes it cannot be saved, for example when it is badly decayed, broken below the gum line, loose from gum disease, or when a wisdom tooth is causing problems. In those cases a safe extraction is the right treatment.
What to expect
- Examination and X-ray to plan the extraction
- Local anaesthetic, so the area is numb
- Removing the tooth, with stitches if needed
- Instructions for the first few days
You will feel pressure but should not feel sharp pain. Tell the dentist if you do and more anaesthetic can be given.
After an extraction
- Bite gently on the gauze for the time your dentist advises
- Do not rinse hard, spit or use a straw on the first day
- Eat soft, cool food and avoid chewing on that side
- Do not smoke, because it delays healing
- Contact the clinic if bleeding does not stop, or pain and swelling get worse after the first days
Replacing the tooth
A missing tooth can be replaced with an implant, a bridge or a denture. Ask about the options at your visit.
T-Dent Dental Clinic sees patients in North Nazimabad and at the Water Pump branch in Karachi, including patients who travel from North Karachi and nearby areas. Dr. Touseef Khan will examine you first, explain the options in plain language and agree the plan with you before any treatment starts.
