Root Canal Treatment

When a root canal is needed
Inside every tooth is soft tissue called the pulp. If deep decay, a crack or an injury lets bacteria reach it, the pulp can become infected. Root canal treatment removes the infected tissue, cleans the inside of the tooth and seals it, so that the tooth can often be kept instead of removed.
Signs you may need one
- Lingering pain with hot or cold drinks
- Pain when biting or at night
- Swelling or a small bump on the gum
- A tooth that has darkened
Sometimes there are no symptoms at all, which is why check-ups and X-rays matter.
What happens during treatment
- Examination and X-ray to see the shape of the roots
- Local anaesthetic, so the tooth is numb
- Cleaning and shaping the root canals
- Filling the canals and sealing the tooth
- Usually a crown afterwards, to protect the tooth
The treatment may take more than one visit. With local anaesthetic, most people find it comparable to having a large filling done.
After treatment
Some tenderness for a few days is common and can be managed as your dentist advises. Avoid biting hard on the tooth until it has its final restoration.
T-Dent Dental Clinic sees patients in North Nazimabad and at the Water Pump branch in Karachi, including patients who travel from North Karachi and nearby areas. Dr. Touseef Khan will examine you first, explain the options in plain language and agree the plan with you before any treatment starts.
